India raced to an all-time record in the Asian Games. India has won a total of 81 medals including 18 gold, 31 silver and 32 bronze till yesterday. This is India’s best ever achievement in a Games. The previous record was 70 medals including 16 gold, 23 silver and 31 bronze at the last Jakarta Asian Games.
Neeraj Chopra won gold and Kishore Kumar Jana silver in men’s javelin throw for India. In the men’s 4x400m relay team, all 3 of the team that won gold were Malayalis, making Kerala proud. Muhammad Anas, Muhammad Ajmal and Amoj Jacob along with Tamil Nadu’s Rajesh Ramesh rushed to gold. Jyoti Surekha Vennam and Ojas Praveen Devthal won gold in the compound archery mixed team category.
The women’s 4x400m relay team comprising of Vidya Ramraj, Aishwarya Mishra, Subha Venkateswan and Prachi Chaudhary won silver. Lovelina Borgohane (Women’s Boxing-75kg), Harmilan Baines (Women’s 800m) and Avinash Sable (Men’s 5000m) were India’s other silver medalists yesterday.
Ram Babu-Manju Rani (35 km walk-mixed team), Abhay Singh-Anahat Singh (squash mixed doubles), Parveen Hooda (women’s boxing-57 kg) and Sunil (Greco-Roman wrestling-87 kg) won bronze.
