While (apparently) the number of news about public cases of stalking involving AirTags us United States, the indian newspaper Deccan Herald disclosed what appears to be the first case (as far as we are aware) of stalking using Apple’s tracking device in India.

According to the publication, the case took place in the city of Ahmedabad and began when a woman started to receive notifications on her iPhone informing her that an AirTag was moving with her – something that was repeated several times, always when she was in her car.

The notification also appeared on the phones of the woman’s daughter and driver, a situation that contributed to her taking the vehicle to a repair shop in order to find the AirTag. According to the police, the device was located glued to the passenger seat (behind the driver’s seat).

According to Indian authorities, the ex-husband was responsible for implanting the AirTag in the woman’s vehicle. He was indicted under the Indian Penal Code and a section of the country’s Information and Technology Act, which deals with the crime of violating bodily privacy.

Apparently, Apple’s growth in the Indian market is bringing not only the company’s products to the country, but also some of the problems commonly associated with them.
