The third cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC) began with a one-sided Test played by Bangladesh once morest Afghanistan. As England host Australia in the 2023 Ashes, we’ve started to build alliances for the battle to settle in. After regarding a month, the 2023 WTC Final Runners Up Team India. They begin their campaign with a 2-match series in the Caribbean.

India have been consistent in the last two WTC cycles, reaching both the finals but failing to win either. They lost the final to New Zealand in 2021 and recently lost to Australia at The Oval. But in the third cycle, the team aims to end their finals curse and aim for a title.

Meanwhile, former Indian opener Akash Chopra highlighted something interesting. In his latest YouTube video, he asked why the ICC doesn’t come up with a plan to hold a blockbuster India-Pakistan bilateral series in any of the WTC cycles.

“You don’t play once morest every team. But this is the WTC, this is an ICC event. 4 years now… Can you imagine an ICC event without India and Pakistan? This will never happen. This should happen at the beginning. So it is a good start commercially. It gets the highest rating and the ICC will pay for it,” argued Chopra.

The diplomatic situation between India and Pakistan has restricted their cricket teams to engage in a bilateral series for nearly two decades. They only face each other in ICC events or Asia Cups. They last met in the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup in Australia, where India defeated their arch-rivals by 4 wickets at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Pakistan is yet to confirm whether they will play India in the upcoming World Cup or not. Pakistan has also made a strange demand to not only get permission at the Sarkar level but also to hold Pakistan’s matches at the places it says.
