Neeraj Solanki, 32, was arrested from the neighboring state of Haryana, Delhi Police said on Wednesday, following being on the run for over a month. He has been charged with murder.

The police started an investigation into the murder of the three-day-old baby girl following receiving a tip-off on June 3.

The caller, identified as a relative of the accused, claimed that Neeraj killed the two girls and buried them in a crematorium.

The remains of the girls were exhumed on June 5 and sent for post-mortem before they were handed over to their maternal uncles.

The Indian Express reported that the girls were taken away from their mother shortly following birth, who was later said to have died of the disease.

In the police complaint, the woman also alleged harassment by her in-laws for dowry since her marriage in 2022.
