The High Commission of India in the United Kingdom on Tuesday urged Indian citizens planning to visit the country to take extra precautions due to the wave of far-right violence that has hit the European nation since last week.
“Visitors from India are advised to remain vigilant and exercise due caution while travelling to the UK. It is advisable to follow local news and advisories issued by security agencies and avoid areas where protests are taking place,” the Indian mission in London said in a statement.
According to data from the Foreign Office, the United Kingdom is home to more than 350,000 Indian citizens, as well as almost one and a half million people of Indian origin, making it a particularly popular destination for young university students who come to pursue their studies.

The multiple stabbings that took place on 29 July at a leisure centre in Southport (north-west England), in which three girls died and eight minors and two adults were injured, unleashed a wave of far-right and Islamophobic violence.
The attacker, Axel Rudakubana, 17, from Wales with Rwandan parents, has been charged with the murder of the two girls and the attempted murder of ten others. However, anger among far-right supporters grew after misinformation spread on social media claiming the attacker was an asylum seeker who had crossed the English Channel in a boat.
This information has sparked riots in several cities across the country, with attacks on mosques and hostels hosting asylum seekers during the protests, resulting in hundreds of arrests.
