“The People’s Party for Everyone’s Hungary is deeply shocked that the Hungarian Minister of Transport and Construction, János Lázár, is not able to stop the collapse of the MÁV,” the party’s announcement states.
As it was written, the Hungarian transport infrastructure has become inoperable, the physical integrity of the passengers is already threatened by the situation, and today the MÁV is characterized by constant delays, technical breakdowns, communication chaos, incomplete maintenance and renovation problems, opaque financial situation and unpredictable service.
These problems are all due to the irresponsibility and professional incompetence of the MÁV management and the Ministry of Transport. As minister, János Lázár was unable to stabilize the operation of MÁV and ensure safe and punctual service for passengers
they announced.
With regard to the above, János Lázár is called upon to take responsibility and resign from his position immediately. In their opinion, Hungarian transport needs a new leader who is not empowered by his political loyalty, but by his expertise and leadership skills to carry out the task, and who will be able to implement the necessary reforms and restore the reliability and safety of the transport system.
A petition has already been launched for Lázár’s resignation
As we wrote, former mayoral candidate Dávid Vitézy also reacted to the events of the past few days related to rail transport. According to him, “Hungarian railway transport is collapsing before our eyes”. In his post, he wrote that between 2020 and 2022, they worked non-stop at BFK “to draw the attention of the public and political decision-makers to the terrible state of Budapest’s railway infrastructure”. Compared to that, as he wrote
János Lázár came and, with reference to the countryside, he stopped all railway investments in Budapest, the renewal of both the Eastern and Western environments, of course including the HÉVs
he explained.
Dávid Vitézy criticized the Minister of Transport and Construction János Lázár for the second time, writing on Sunday that “it’s a shame that more than 50-year-old railway carriages are running as long-distance trains with extra charges” and that “it is not only the abstract political, but also the direct decision-making responsibility of the transport to the minister – because he did not alleviate, but only deepened the increasingly serious crisis of the Hungarian railways in the recent period with every step”.
Dávid Vitézy also stated earlier that János Lázár should resign. The LMP also launched a petition for the resignation of János Lázár, if the transport minister cannot restore the number of punctually arriving InterCity flights to the 2022 level by September.
