Péter Magyar, ex-husband of Judit Varga, gave an interview on Wednesday evening ATVStraight Talk program, where he talked with host Györgyi Szöllősi regarding, among other things, the unfurling of the flag to be held on March 15, Péter Polt and the corruption of the prosecutor’s office, the Schadl-Völner case and why he came out to the public just now.
As the first topic, he would have asked Magyar Szöllősi regarding the flag-breaking on March 15th, who out of hand “propagandized” ATV in his thank you for being invited, because the other propaganda media (including Index, in his opinion) did not do so.
The presenter immediately rejected the accusation and defended himself and his colleagues, saying that no one tells them what kind of show to make and what to ask the guests.
Returning to March 15, Magyar said that “we are organizing a commemoration of the revolution and a flag-down for a third force”, which is incorruptible and unstoppable. Its goal is to replace the current ruling elite, as the NER machinery has never been so broken. According to him, the system is morally and politically unsustainable. He believes that if there is no new strength in the elections, then Fidesz will win another, even more overwhelming victory than ever.
on the other hand, He would build a modern, European country.
He did not say whether he started or will start a party, or whether he will become part of an existing political force, but he promised to answer everything at the commemoration in two days. According to him, there can be arguments in favor of either one, since a one-man show can only work for a while, following which a team must be built in order to enter the political arena – which may not happen until following June 9.
What changed the opinion regarding party formation?
In Partizán, he said, he honestly thought he wasn’t founding a party, but people fell into such a crisis of confidence because of the amnesty case that magnified the whole effect. The interest and inquiry of the people changed his opinion, this prompted him to change his position on this issue, to override his own decision. He already criticized NER internally, but he spoke regarding the reasons for the separation as follows:
“I don’t know what I owe to NER, but I know what the country owes to it:
- We have been a member of the EU for 20 years, with two Marshall Aid funds we are the second poorest and most corrupt in Europe;
- family policy is the flagship of the government, yet last year the fewest children were born in Hungary, and the statistics are only getting worse.”
“Without the pardon scandal, I probably wouldn’t be sitting here,” he admits. It was a long process. Although he has been critical of the NER in the past, his marriage to Judit Varga and the upcoming June elections have not allowed him to voice his opinion on a wider scale. If Varga had stayed, he probably wouldn’t be in the public eye until the elections.
“But why now?” asked the presenter. And Magyar said: “this proves that I am a patient and loyal person. They accuse me of being a creation of the Rogán works, but I will answer this with a snap on the 15th.”
Threats do not affect him
“I received a lot of indirect messages that this should not be done this way, but there was nothing concrete,” he answered when asked if he had been threatened following his interviews. He did not say from whom, but he revealed that it was not from Gergely Gulyás, because he is no longer his friend, but he wished him well even from a distance.
He also emphasized that “Rogán has to go, but he won’t go as long as the prime minister is there. He is not the most important person, but Orbán, so people attack Rogán in vain”. According to him, he did not refute what he said in Partizán, he continues to accept what he said to Márton Gulyás in his first public interview.
“I turned to the public because maybe it will protect us. “Bertalan Havasi is not a press spokesperson, but a press defender,” says Magyar. According to him, it is no coincidence that Megafon spent 50 million to discredit and dehumanize him, so they are trying to discredit him. He said to Zoltán Czeglédi, Zsolt Bayer and Megafon in general that
it’s sad that people can talk at such a level regarding anyone.
“I can be criticized, I’m glad that the right and the left are criticizing in unison, this proves that the whole bagaz is a scam,” he emphasized. According to him, they laughed at him for wanting to be a politician, as “it is a serious profession”. But Magyar believes that there is no such thing as a politician’s training course, not only who the people who tell the story say, but also who the Hungarian people think they can become a politician.
I claim that this government can be replaced democratically
said Péter Magyar.
To Péter Polt: At least take care of appearances!
According to Péter Magyar, “anomalies occurred, the prosecutors might not do their work properly”. However, you have to ask Péter Polt why this happened. Then he detonated the bomb once more:
I know who is behind the Schadl-Völner case, but I won’t tell you here. If I went in to testify, Gergely Gulyás might also come with me to the prosecution
– claimed Magyar, and then cautiously said that he did not know that Gergely Gulyás knew, but he must have guessed, just as dozens of high-ranking politicians guess or know.
He said that he is not preparing to replace the government, but “I hope that the country is preparing for a change of government”. He did not rule out running in the 2026 elections in some form, but when asked if he would run as a candidate for prime minister, he gave the same answer as he did to the question regarding his political career in Partizán: “it’s not even a joke that I’m a candidate for prime minister flies”.
I don’t like to talk regarding accountability, but if Polt wasn’t the chief prosecutor, it wouldn’t be necessary to hold him accountable, because the prosecutor’s office would do its job itself
Magyar said. In his opinion, if there is a change in the Prosecutor General’s Office, in that case more of the oligarchs will start to speak and “the dominoes will start to fall.” As he put it, “the first brick moves, you just have to knock it out”, he concluded his thoughts.
Who is Péter Magyar?
Péter Magyar, the ex-husband of former justice minister Judit Varga, following resigning from all his positions, detonated a huge bomb with his interview to Partizán, the ripples of which are still felt today, but he did not stop there. A few days later, he sent a message to István Tiborcz on his Facebook page, and then got into a verbal duel with Gergelly Gulyás, the minister in charge of the Prime Minister’s Office, although only through the press.
Later, the publicist Zoltán Czeglédi simply “impersonated” Péter Magyar, and Megafon spent tens of millions trying to get him to expire. Several individuals filed complaints once morest him following what he said in his interviews, but they might not stop him, because all signs point to Péter Magyar entering the political field and starting a party. In addition, he even provided Viktor Orbán with some unsolicited advice following his public media interview.
