On June 6, 2021, György Schadl was called on the phone by a lecturer at the National University of Public Service. The conversation was about private topics for nearly four minutes, later the president of the executive faculty started talking about an acquaintance having an exam, writes the Telex.
In the document obtained by the paper, it was stated as follows:
“The conversation starts with discussing private things. At the 03:57 minute of the communication, Schadl would be bothered about a story tomorrow […] he will take the exam tomorrow. Schadl has a dear friend, Bea Lupkovics, who is the secretary of the Borsod County Municipality. Schadl is fine with him and the lady president. During a conversation, the exam came up, which Lupkovics is very afraid of. Schadl, when it came to this, said that he was a very good friend of the instructor. He thought he had forgotten about it, but he got a text this morning. […] He understands what Schadl wants. He notes that he is the chairman of the final exam […] will be Schadl asks if it should be […] says no. It will be a good committee. They are listening and there will be no problem.”
György Schadl was replaced by Beáta Lupkovics at the head of the executive branch. The paper inquired about the contents of the document with György Schadl, who said that if his statement is valid, he will look for them.
They received the answer from the relevant lecturer that he knew György Schadl from the university, they started teaching at the same time, sometimes they called each other on the phone “for the sake of polite conversations”, but he never helped György Schadl, not even in the mentioned case, and in fact, according to him, it is precisely what is shown in the wiretap report, that “in short, but factually, I refrained from any further suggestions. In addition, my words at that time were also justified by the fact that, knowing the students’ theses and the written professional opinions on the theses that had already been prepared weeks earlier – 2-2 per thesis, completely independent of me personally – all of them were well-structured and thorough work, which is why I told my interlocutor to calm down”.
The lecturer stated that he does not decide on the outcome of the thesis defense, but a review committee, which was set up weeks earlier, “on the day of the mentioned defense, an independent committee of 6 made the decision – well above the usual 3-person final exam committee at universities – , thus ensuring the objectivity, clarity and regularity of the results obtained during the assessment”.
The instructor added that it has nothing to do with the Völner-Schadl case because it is not part of any criminal proceedings.
The National University of Public Service stated that “based on the available information, no ethical investigation was initiated at the university”, nor were they sought by investigators or other authorities in the case.
