On Friday, Russia and China vetoed the proposed resolution submitted by the United States to the UN Security Council, which calls for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip in the fighting between Israel and Hamas in order to protect civilians and deliver humanitarian aid, reports MTI.
In the 15-member council, 11 member states voted in favor of the American proposal, three once morest it, and one country abstained.
Before the vote, Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vassily Nyebenzya, stated that Moscow supported an immediate ceasefire, but at the same time questioned the language of the resolution and accused US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield of “misleading the international community”.
Negotiations on the Armistice and Hostage Convention
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed the ceasefire and hostage agreement between Israel and the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas, as well as the planned Israeli attack on Rafah in the Palestinian-inhabited Gaza Strip, in Israel on Friday, Israeli authorities said.
Blinken had a discussion with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire.
The main request of the US Secretary of State for the success of the ceasefire and hostage release negotiations was the support of the Palestinian demand that the Gazans who fled to the south can return to the northern part of the zone.
The Israeli authorities also announced on Friday that in the morning in the central part of the West Bank, near the settlement village of Dolev, a Palestinian assailant opened fire on the passengers of an Israeli minibus. Seven of the people on the bus were injured, one of them was life-threatening, according to the military radio report. The attack was carried out by 33-year-old Mujahad Barkat Mansour, who previously served in an Israeli prison and previously served in the Palestinian presidential guard. The terrorist who fled the scene was shot dead from the air, from a helicopter, following several hours of pursuit and then a firefight.
