“Nothing can upset me now”

Born on a US military base in Vicenza, Italy, Adams grew up in the US state of Colorado with five siblings. Her father, who worked as an entertainer in nightclubs after his military career, introduced her to acting.

After graduating in event catering, Adams ventured into the acting world. She realized that the challenges of the Hollywood business had prepared her well, as she told the New York Times in 2007, recalling her experiences with difficult people, she revealed: “I’ve worked with some of the meanest people in the world – nothing can faze me now.”

At the beginning of her career, Adams was not intimidated by the big names in the industry, having already met stars such as Meryl Streep (75) and Clint Eastwood (94). Even her first kiss on camera was with Leonardo DiCaprio. After her debut in the satire “Drop Dead Gorgeous” in 1999, Adams continued to take on supporting roles until she finally got her first leading role in the comedy “Catch Me If You Can” directed by Stephen Spielberg (77) in 2002, in which she played DiCaprio’s lover.

A bumpy start

Although “Catch Me If You Can” brought her recognition, her career did not take off as quickly as she had hoped and she even spent a whole year without a job. She shared this difficult time with the Berliner Morgenpostbut emphasized how she was able to enjoy her normal life beyond fame and recognition.

Luckily, she eventually landed the lead role in the low-budget film “Junebug,” which earned her her first Oscar nomination and cemented her reputation as an “indie queen.” This marked a turning point in her career, which has since been marked by a variety of projects, including Disney films such as “Enchanted” (2007) and “The Muppets” (2011), as well as superhero films such as “Batman v Superman” (2016).

In 2011, she shared her joy at being able to live out her childhood dreams in films such as “Enchanted” and “The Muppets” with the Mass Live during CinemaCon. She has also taken on smaller, more challenging roles in films such as “Her” (2013) and “Dear Evan Hansen” (2021).

A Hollywood double life

Adams continues to balance her work in major productions with independent films, showing her impressive adaptability and scope. As she Digital Spy revealed, she feels lucky to be able to experience different films and genres with different challenges.

Unfazed by complex roles, Adams looks for characters that challenge her out of her comfort zone, as she said in an interview with HE DOES explained, “And when a role scares me, I know I have to play it.” The recognition she has received for her versatile performances has earned her six Academy Award nominations in the Best Supporting Actress or Best Actress categories, including for films such as “Junebug,” “Doubt,” “The Fighter,” “The Master,” “American Hustle” and “Vice.”

In addition to her Oscar nominations, Adams has also been nominated for a Golden Globe nine times and won twice for “American Hustle” and “Big Eyes” (2014). In 2017, she was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was ranked among the top ten highest-paid actresses in the world for several years.

A love story in Hollywood

Despite her successful acting career and notable roles, Adams has managed to lead a scandal-free private life. Colleagues appreciate her sense of humor, and her love life is relatively uneventful compared to Hollywood standards. Twenty years after meeting in an acting class in 2001, she and Darren Le Gallo (50) are still together. Engaged since 2007, they finally married in May 2015 and had their daughter three years later.

Reflecting on her life, both professionally and personally, Adams shared in an interview with Interview Magazine: “I allow myself to be imperfect. The illusion of perfection is an illusion anyway.”

After her first Oscar nomination for her role in “Junebug”, Meryl Streep (75) praised Adams’ performance in an interview with New York Times and admired her ability to withstand the challenges of the industry, saying, “Nothing can faze her now.”

In the 2015 comedy “Big Eyes,” which earned Adams her second Oscar nomination, she once again worked with Meryl Streep, who played the over-extending mother of fictional artist Margaret Keane. During her acceptance speech for the Best Supporting Actress award at the 2015 Golden Globes, Amy Adams mentioned her gratitude for Streep’s support and guidance, saying, “Thank you, Meryl Streep, for the inspiration and the friendship.”
