Pardon for Christmas for 75 prisoners in Hesse

By Christmas, 75 prisoners in Hesse are allowed to leave prison early by pardon. According to the Ministry of Justice, 35 requests for clemency were rejected. The Christmas grace is possible for prison inmates in Hesse whose sentence falls between November 25 of the current year and January 1, 2023 inclusive. The so-called “Christmas amnesty” is intended to bring a nice celebration to prisoners who would be released around the turn of the year anyway.

In other federal states – with the exception of Bavaria – prisoners will also be released early this year at Christmas: In Berlin there are 160 criminals, in Rhineland-Palatinate 88, in Saxony 48 in Lower Saxony 46, in Brandenburg 40, in Schleswig-Holstein 26, 23 in Hamburg, 22 in Saxony-Anhalt, 16 in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, nine in Bremen, seven in Thuringia and five in Saarland.
