With a budget of 2,542 million pesos for the year 2024, INDAP Ñuble will have almost 20 percent more resources to incorporate irrigation surfaces into the region, through the incorporation of new water sources and the repair and rehabilitation of canals.
This was announced by Fernanda Azócar, Regional Director of INDAP Ñuble, who highlighted that the increase in resources means that the region will increase the irrigated area to 2,500 hectares this season. “Our guidelines mandate us to convert the production of peasant family farming into a resilient and sustainable agriculture, so the provision of water sources and identification of irrigation is essential for efficient use, given the imminent shortage of this resource” , she highlighted.
The directive added that an agreement was made with the Regional Government of Ñuble with an investment of 1,000 million pesos, exclusively for the authorization of water sources, which is additional to the 1,500 million sectoral pesos.
The director of INDAP Ñuble also reported that work is being done to transversally increase the participation of women and young people up to 40 years of age in INDAP programs and thus reduce the gap in access to the tools provided by the entity based on additional scores in the contests. of irrigation for these segments of the population: “If last year the percentage of women who accessed irrigation instruments was 37% versus 63% of male participation, we hope that with these inclusions of gender and age in the contests, we can reverse this historic and abysmal gap in access, as requested by President Gabriel Boric,” the director pointed out.
