IND vs SL: Lankan announces retirement from series against India

Colombo: Sri Lankan pacer Suranga Lakmal has announced his retirement from international cricket following this month’s Test series once morest India (IND vs SL). It is no coincidence that Lakmal, who made his ODI debut once morest India in December 2009, is also retiring from playing once morest India.

Lakmal has taken 168 wickets in 68 Tests for Sri Lanka, 109 wickets in 86 ODIs and eight wickets in 11 T20I matches. Lakmal said he was proud to have played for Sri Lanka and thanked his teammates, coaches and the Sri Lanka Cricket Board for their support.

Lakmal did not make much of an impact on Sri Lanka’s spin-friendly pitches, but did do well in countries with pace-friendly pitches such as Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and the West Indies. Lakmal, who has led Sri Lanka in five Tests, has won three. Two of these victories were in the 2018 home series once morest South Africa.

Sri Lanka will play three T20 matches and two Tests once morest India. The first Test will be played on February 25 in Bangalore. The second Test will be played on March 3 in Mohali. The first match of the T20 series will be played on March 13 in Mohali.

The second match of the T20 series will be played in Dharamsala and the third T20 match will be played in Lucknow on the 18th. The Indian team will take on Sri Lanka following the ODI and T20 series once morest the West Indies.
