Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida On January 23, Japan warned that Japan is on the verge of “losing social function” due to a sharp drop in the birth rate, so this is a top priority issue to be solved by the Government of this country.

The Japanese leader made the above statement in his speech at the opening session of the annual session of the Japanese National Assembly.

Mr. Kishida said last year the number of children born in Japan fell below 800,000 for the first time – the lowest level since the Japanese authorities conducted data compilation. The decline in the birth rate entails a series of consequences such as an aging population, a reduction in the labor force, and increasing social welfare costs.
