Increased consumer interest drives home automation market

Recent research by Fortune Business Insight estimates that the home automation market should grow from the current 72 billion dollars to 162 billion dollars in 2028, globally.

According to the survey, what most drives this growth is the increase in consumer interest in the internet of things and the possibility of automating the residence in a personalized way.

In Brazil, it is estimated that around 2 million homes already have some type of automated system. Just five years ago, this index was no more than 300,000. According to an estimate by IBC Brasil, the domestic market should grow by 30% in the coming years, mainly because home automation products have evolved and become simpler to install.

“Today, via smart switches controlled via a cell phone app, it is possible to activate and customize the lighting”, explains Elgin executive Patrícia Lima. She adds that even simple devices, such as plugs, can be programmed to turn devices on and off.

The innovations are in line with the prediction of specialist consultancy Parks Associates, which estimates that in the next ten years the consumer world will be driven by services with Wi-Fi connectivity and mobile services as the basis for a consumer’s connected lifestyle. It is believed that barriers to the adoption of automation such as accessibility, simplicity, value, familiarity, privacy and security concerns, and product integration will gradually be overcome.
