Worried regarding the increase in the number of bankruptcies in the hospitality sector since the start of the year, the Walloon federation of the sector is calling on Sunday for the adoption of four measures to relieve the sector.
In a press release, the Horeca Wallonia Federation first asks the government to adopt “fair and identical” regulations for all Horeca activities everywhere in order to avoid unfair competition. The sector is also demanding a reduced VAT rate of 12% for non-alcoholic drinks consumed on site, as well as an indexation and extension of the target group reduction existing today for a maximum of five full-time workers in the sector. sector. Finally, bosses in the sector would like an extension of gross-net overtime from 360 to 450 for permanent workers.
“The Graydon figures (on bankruptcies) call for action. Doing nothing and waiting for the next government is really no longer an option for us. With Horeca Vlaanderen, Horeca Brussels and Comeos, we therefore offer a coherent package of measures which will effectively help those who work correctly today”, estimates Luc Marchal, president of the HoReCa Wallonia federation.
According to the latest figures provided by Graydon, the hotel and catering sector recorded 1,386 bankruptcies during the first nine months of the year, an increase of almost 20% compared to the same time last year. .
