Increase in rates, resident cards, fines, etc. : the Brussels parking reform will hurt motorists’ wallets

The new ordinance provides for price ranges from a minimum of €0.50 to a maximum of €10 for the first hour, €0.5 to €10 for the second half-hour, €2 to €20 for the 2nd hour, and 1, €5 to €20 per additional hour. Fines will be between €20 and €60, depending on the area. Last December, the government agreed to define the new tariffs, included in these ranges.

After Uber and the ritual slaughter, a new hot issue on the table of the Brussels parliament. The debates on the parking reform, led by Minister Elke Van den Brandt (Groen), began on Tuesday in the Mobility Committee of the Brussels Parliament.

The last parking plan dates from 2009… and since then the capital has evolved. However, Minister Groen does not want “start from a blank page”, and maintains several principles. The distribution of parking revenue, for example, remains unchanged: 85% for the municipalities, 15% for the region.
