“It’s very nice and fun because we can do various sports. I like skating and playing ball. I have been at school for 10 years and I am 13 years old,” confesses Nicole Rojas, a student at the “Paso a Pasito” Special School, with her face illuminated and smiling, within the framework of the Inclusive Sports Festival that she organized, this Thursday morning, the Sports Directorate of the Municipality of Chillán, through the Adaes Program, at the Quilamapu Sports Complex.

The traditional meeting, which is consolidated as a powerful instance of social inclusion and integration, brought together almost 140 children and young people, students belonging to six special schools in Chillán: Las Acacias, Bernardo O’Higgins, Avanzando Juntos, Persevera and Pasito a Pasito .

“The goal is for these children to be able to interact with their peers through sport and it helps them because it takes them out of their usual environment. This meeting excites them and encourages them to play sports,” stressed Pablo Leiva, coordinator of the Adaes program of the Municipality of Chillán.

“I like to dance to Shakira songs, running and bocce ball,” says Krishna Zapata, from Escuela Persevera, happily, before starting to dance.

Beautiful initiative

Tamara López, a physical education teacher, graduated from the Adventist University of Chile, who practices at the Persevera School, stressed that “the challenge of the Municipality of Chillán, to bring together children from different schools, is nice. “Nice initiative to keep them active in physical education.”

The historic coach of the Adaes program soccer workshop, Héctor Pineda, assured that “inclusion is very important, especially at this stage, for children to enjoy. This has to gain more strength in our society.”

Matías Parra, coordinator of the program that encourages physical activity, assured that “these inclusive activities are a driving force for society. “This festival is not only inclusive, it unleashes joy and contributes to health,”

“The Municipality of Chillán takes the flag of inclusion, promoting all these workshops, highlighting the inclusive skate hockey workshop, which is unique in Chile. With this, the concept of inclusion becomes effective, developing their physical and social skills,” highlighted the councilor and president of the Sports Commission, Pedro Sánchez.

The students enjoyed sports clinics in basketball, table tennis, roller hockey, boccia and soccer and sealed a day full of joy, participating in an entertaining dance session.
