Inclusive Restaurant Extra in Reims: A Unique Culinary Experience for All

“To my knowledge, there are no other inclusive restaurants in the Michelin guide,” proudly asserts Gonzague Peugnet, co-manager of the Extra restaurant, located in Reims (Marne), in the Boulingrin district. Open since May 4, 2023, following a few ephemeral experiences outside the walls, the Extra restaurant, jointly managed by Gonzague Peugnet and Mathieu Saint-Guilhem, will not have had to wait long before attracting the attention of the inspectors of the famous red guide .

“I don’t even know when they came. During the summer, I received an email telling me to provide information regarding the restaurant, but I didn’t really believe it,” says Gonzague Peugnet. So invested in the adventure that he no longer knows when he will be able to sleep, this former director of EHPAD, largely involved in “social”, has highlighted a new way of accessing gastronomy.

Like Cafés Joyeux, the Extra restaurant employs 17 people, including 13 with disabilities. Chef Philippe Joly, former second in command at Foch, a Michelin-starred restaurant in Reims, offers seasonal dishes and menus worthy of the region’s finest restaurants. The modern setting, whose acoustics have been particularly adapted to the staff and also benefits the customers, has certainly also won over the critics of the Michelin guide. Just like the atmosphere: “Here, there is the plate, that’s for sure, but we offer you something that you won’t find elsewhere, there is the smile, the relational quality but also the intelligence of the relationship,” supports Gonzague Peugnet.

Listed from this Wednesday, October 4 on the website alongside 18 other Reims restaurants, L’Extra will appear in the paper guide which will be available next March. A new era that might make you want to go even further… to conquer a star? “Of course, it would be rewarding to have a star, but you have to keep your feet on the ground, when you already see everything that is happening to us, it’s hardly believable,” concludes Gonzague Peugnet.
