MEXICO CITY (EFE).— The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) signed an agreement with the Chinese company Huawei to promote the inclusion of women in the digital economy and empower female entrepreneurs in the country, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The agreement provides for international trade promotion to increase the participation of women entrepreneurs in fairs, exhibitions and trade missions, emphasizing the inclusion of women from indigenous communities with programs in indigenous languages that reduce the existing digital divide.
During the signing of the agreement, the head of the SRE, Alicia Bárcena Ibarra, highlighted the Feminist Foreign Policy that Mexico implements and stressed that this tool “will provide financial and technical assistance to women entrepreneurs so that they can succeed in the digital economy.”
The official said that this will benefit women who participate in micro, small and medium-sized enterprises “because there is still a huge gap between SMEs headed by women and men, there is a gap of around 1.7 trillion dollars.”
The agreement also prioritizes the inclusion of women from indigenous communities with programs in indigenous languages, designed to train them in the use of information technologies and facilitate their integration into the digital economy, in order to reduce the gap.
To this end, Huawei will provide technological devices and access to digital platforms for women entrepreneurs in rural and indigenous communities.
Huawei Latin America Vice President Xue Feng said that they are committed to digital inclusion and the empowerment of women. “Together with the SRE, we will strengthen the capabilities of Mexican businesswomen and help them access international markets,” he said. This collaboration is in addition to the public-private partnerships established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, focused on closing inequality gaps. “The initiatives include the economic empowerment of women through financial inclusion, the construction of support networks, access to information and capacity building for international economic activities, as well as the granting of seed capital for productive initiatives led by women,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs concluded.
