The White House condemned the use of violence once morest peaceful demonstrations in Iran, on Monday, while Britain summoned a senior diplomat to speak on the file of the suppression of protesters.
White House spokeswoman Karen Jean-Pierre said Monday that the White House condemns Iranian security forces’ crackdown on peaceful protesters.
“We are concerned and disturbed by reports of the security authorities’ response to the peaceful protests of university students with violence and mass arrests,” she told reporters traveling with US President Joe Biden to Puerto Rico.
For its part, the British Foreign Office confirmed, on Monday, that it had summoned the Iranian Chargé d’Affairs to suppress the protests in his country, which began following the killing of the young woman, Mahsa Amini, while she was detained by the moral police.
British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said: “The violence once morest protesters in Iran at the hands of the security forces is truly shocking.”
“Today we made our view clear to the Iranian authorities, instead of blaming outside elements for the unrest, they should take responsibility for their actions and listen to the concerns of their people,” he added.
