Including the Islamic Group in Egypt.. Washington removes 5 organizations from the list of terrorism

Today, Friday, the US State Department announced the removal of 5 organizations from the list of terrorism, including the Islamic Group in Egypt.

The list of the five organizations included the “Islamic Group responsible for the assassination of former Egyptian President Mohamed Anwar El-Sadat”, the “Mujahideen Shura Council in the Enclaves of Jerusalem”, and the extremist Jewish “Khana Hayy” group.

The Associated Press reported a few days ago that the United States is preparing to remove 5 extremist organizations that are believed to no longer exist from its list of foreign terrorist organizations.

Some of the organizations it will remove from the terrorism list once posed significant threats and killed hundreds if not thousands of people in Asia, Europe and the Middle East, the agency said.

He added that although these organizations are no longer active, the decision in itself represents a political sensitivity for the administration of President Joe Biden, and the countries in which these organizations are active, as it might provoke criticism from the victims of the attacks of these organizations and their families.

Among those organizations, according to the US agency, are the Basque separatist organization ETA (armed Spanish), the Japanese Aum Shinrikyo sect, the extremist Jewish Kach movement, and two Islamic organizations that have previously been active in Israel, the Palestinian territories and Egypt.

On Friday, the US State Department notified Congress of the move, which comes at a time when there is a divisive but irrelevant debate in Washington and elsewhere regarding whether Iran’s Revolutionary Guards should or can be removed from the US terror list as part of efforts to salvage the Iran nuclear deal.

It is expected that the United States will officially announce the removal of the five organizations from the terrorist list next week.
