A police officer was injured during another vehicle theft that completely got out of hand on Monday noon in the west of the island of Montreal.

It all started around 12:30 p.m., when patrol officers located a vehicle reported stolen on a residential street in Dorval, in the west of the island of Montreal.

“The police noticed that a suspect was preparing to climb aboard the vehicle in question, while an accomplice was waiting for him aboard another car,” said agent Manuel Couture, spokesperson for the police. Montreal police.

Patrol officers managed to nab the first suspect following a short foot chase. He is a 19-year-old young man with no criminal history.

But during this time, the second suspect managed to flee, hitting a police car in the process. The patrol car then struck a police officer who was standing nearby, slightly injuring him.

The fugitive took off in a BMW car and managed to outrun the police by driving at very high speed.

The BMW was located a few minutes later, seven kilometers away, in the parking lot of a residential building on Chemin du Bord-du-Lac-Lakeshore, in Pointe-Claire, along Highway 20.

The highway also had to be closed for a certain time to allow the police to ensure that the potentially armed individual was not there.

A vast search operation then began in the area at the end of the followingnoon. The dog handler and police officers from the intervention group participated in the search, which ended around 3:30 p.m., without the suspect being found.

This is the third time in less than a week that a similar event – where suspects deliberately rush towards the police – has occurred on the island of Montreal.

Last Wednesday, an SPVM police officer fired in the direction of a car thief who allegedly drove deliberately towards him, in the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce district, in Montreal. The suspect was hit by three projectiles and is still in serious condition in hospital.

Then, on the night of Saturday to Sunday, in the heart of downtown Montreal, a police officer who was trying to intercept the driver of a possibly stolen BMW came very close to being hit by the suspect’s car, and this, even if he held him at gunpoint with his service weapon.

The suspect, who refused to comply, managed to flee by driving along the sidewalk of rue de la Montagne.
