Two Stib employees were injured in two incidents that occurred on Tuesday evening and Wednesday followingnoon, Stib said on Wednesday, confirming the information reported by several media. A third employee of the Brussels public transport company, in shock, was taken to hospital.
The first incident occurred Tuesday evening around 8:00 p.m. on tram line 39, at the Stockel stop. A tram might not leave because of a passenger who was smoking at the doors of the vehicle, explains Stib spokesman Guy Sablon. “Our driver asked him to get on or off, but the man did not move, even following the intervention of a second driver”, he specifies.
The tram drivers called in a security team from Stib, but a clash took place before they arrived.
“When the second driver once more addressed the smoking man, he attacked him. The first driver intervened, but was nudged. That’s when our security team is arrived. The man fled but he was able to be arrested by the police”, reports the spokesperson.
The two tram drivers were taken to hospital. One of them suffered a contusion, the other was in shock following these events. The Stib will file a complaint once morest the aggressor, it is specified.
The second incident took place on Wednesday followingnoon. A sleeping passenger was discovered in a metro arriving at the Jacques Brel depot.
“This man was escorted out by a security team, but when the same team came out of the depot shortly followingwards, the same man sprayed them with a spray, presumably pepper spray”says Guy Sablon. “One of our employees had to go to the hospital for treatment. The attacker was able to be apprehended.”
