On March 19, 2022, Marouane’s life was turned upside down by a slap, as his attacker clarified, and not by a punch. Taken to the emergency room, his vital prognosis is in jeopardy. Internal bleeding is to be feared. Fortunately, he came out of the coma, but he suffered following-effects from the attack.
Thursday morning, his attacker appeared before the Hainaut criminal court, Mons division, to answer for beatings resulting in incapacity for work for more than four months. The facts are not disputed.
Undeclared bouncer
Nico was a bouncer in a bar located on the Place du Marche aux Herbes in Mons, the festive heart of the city of Doudou. He was in charge of security. However, he was not declared because he does not have the necessary license due to his criminal record.
With his big muscles and his tattoos that cover part of his face, the guy is impressive. That evening, he took Marouane out of the bar, at the request of the owner, because he was drunk and a little heavy with young women. He slapped him and threw him on the pavement.
Unfortunately, Marouane’s head hit a curb. His skull was split open. His lawyer, Me D’Agristina, is demanding a provisional sum of 5,000 euros for damage estimated at 100,000 euros. Expertise is requested. “He suffers from significant hearing loss, tinnitus and anxiety attacks,” says the lawyer.
I’m going to bleed you
Nico does not contest the slap. “He said to me, I’m going to bleed you, and he put his hand in his pocket. I thought he was going to pull out a weapon,” said the defendant. Me D’Agristina notes that he never told this version to the police and the investigating judge. “Yes, I said it,” replies the defendant.
The beating scene was recorded by urban cameras and, according to witnesses, Marouane was drunk, but he posed no problem in the café. For the prosecution, we must not trivialize this type of aggression in festive environments, on the part of security agents. A sentence of thirty months in prison is requested.
Bordeline
Nico admits that he needs to be punished for what he did. However, he says he is no longer the same man. After his appearance before the investigating judge, who released him, under conditions which he respected, the defendant underwent therapy. In an August 2023 report, a psychiatrist described him as “borderline”, which perhaps explains his criminal history and the fact that he quickly rose in the towers.
In court, the defendant spoke calmly and regretted the facts and their consequences which might have been more dramatic. “Since I went to therapy and we were able to put a name to my problem, I no longer have this anger in me. I manage my medication,” he says. A reprieve is requested by his lawyer.
Judgment in early November.
