It was this Thursday morning that the incident took place at Andenne prison. An inmate was interviewed in a room with a director.
Suddenly, he grabbed his chair and smashed it in this manager’s face. Two officers intervened to control him but the detainee, of rather hefty corpulence, rebelled and hit them. The director is injured in the face and arm. The officers have bruises on their backs and chests. They still have to pass examinations, in particular to determine whether incapacity for work is necessary.
The detainee is convicted of assault and battery. “He is accustomed to this type of reaction“, describes Catherine Zicot, head of the establishment. “As soon as he gets frustrated with something, he gets carried away.”
Another incident took place in the followingnoon. Another inmate, displeased, attacked an officer. He was injured in the ribs.
“Prisoners attacking staff is commonplace“, adds Catherine Zicot. “But it is not often that there are injuries in the end.”
