INCAN: new CT scanner for cancer patients will be installed in the room that housed brachytherapy equipment

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The National Cancer Institute announced that the new CT scanner, which will improve the diagnostic and treatment capacity of cancer patients who come to the facility, will be installed in the room that housed the brachytherapy equipment that stopped working three years ago.

He also points out that this brachytherapy equipment is expensive and considered obsolete, especially when there are more effective and less invasive alternatives such as conventional external radiotherapy, with linear accelerators and advanced conformal radiotherapy techniques.

In order to optimize the available space and resources, they removed the brachytherapy equipment with iridium source from the room, in order to use it for the installation of a new CT scanner, which will improve the diagnostic and treatment capacity of the institution.

On the other hand, the institution emphasizes that it has another brachytherapy team in operation and operates in two shifts.

He highlights that this allows patients not to have to wait to receive their treatment once it has been scheduled and that on average, about 10 patients from all over the country are treated daily.

Incan also expresses its institutional commitment to provide high-quality and accessible treatments to all patients and appreciates the understanding and continued support while working to improve and update the services it provides to patients.
