INBTP: Félix Tshisekedi requests a detailed report on allegations of embezzlement of academic fees and professors’ salaries

Several points were discussed during the meeting of the tenth council of ministers held last Friday at the AU -African Union- city in Kinshasa, capital of the DRC -Democratic Republic of Congo.

The communication of the President of the Republic, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, who chaired this council, focused mainly on three points, in particular, the allegations of embezzlement of academic fees and professors’ salaries at the INBTP -National Institute of Buildings and Public Works- as well as other cases of mismanagement in Higher Education Establishments.

The Head of State drew the attention of members of the Government to certain allegations of embezzlement of students’ academic fees and teachers’ salaries by the INBTP Management Committee. On this occasion, he stated that if the facts are proven, they would constitute an unacceptable betrayal of the trust that Congolese youth and teachers place in our academic institutions; because they undermine not only the efforts made

by the Government to ensure quality education for young people, but they also undermine the integrity of the DRC’s education system.

In order to shed light on this matter, President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo instructed the Minister of Higher and University Education to conduct a monitoring mission within this establishment, and to extend this monitoring to all universities and higher education establishments in the country.

He also stressed that anyone found guilty of embezzlement or mismanagement will have to answer for their actions before the courts.

Therefore, the Minister of Higher and University Education must take the necessary measures to strengthen the control and transparency mechanisms in the management of academic funds and professors’ salaries. A detailed report is expected on this subject.
