The University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM) inaugurated its renovated and state-of-the-art cinema center on Wednesday evening.
To update the facilities, UQAM received a $9 million grant from the provincial government.
Presented as an avant-garde place in the teaching of the seventh art, the center aims to meet the needs of the film industry and to stimulate the creativity of students.
“I directed the series ‘Les Simone’ and what we have here at the moment is very similar to what we had as equipment on ‘Les Simone’, even the camera that we have at the moment is superior to the one with which I shot”, declared Geneviève Perron, director of photography and teacher, to TVA Nouvelles.
The renovated center, whose area has been doubled, includes a complete film studio, two dressing rooms, state-of-the-art equipment and a teaching room.
Among the facilities, there is also a projection room equipped with Dolby Atmos technology, for immersive 3D sound, and a recording studio with control room and sound effects room.
Built in the heart of downtown Montreal, the studio is almost independent from the rest of the building. “The studio is built in such a way that it is completely decoupled from the rest of the building. It’s a shell in a box, the floor on springs hardly touches the concrete slab of the University, the walls are walls inside the walls, so the insulation is perfect, “explained Clovis Gouaillier. , teacher at UQAM.
The renovated center was inaugurated on Wednesday evening and students will be able to see it in person on October 22 during the University’s open house.
