Inauguration of New Quay in Ottignies: Updates on Railway Infrastructure Renovations and Future RER Expansion

2023-11-20 11:42:44

This Monday, Infrabel is also inaugurating a new quay in Ottignies, where work continues at pace. While waiting for the construction of a new station, the entire railway infrastructure is being refurbished. Thus, two longer (up to 350 meters) and wider double quays have already been built in place of the old ones.

“These platforms are also higher to make it easier to get on the train. Although going up is not the right expression since the principle is to have the platform at the same level as the train. But there is still work to be done. . We have two double-platforms renewed, there are six to do in total.”

By 2029, all railway technical equipment will have been renewed, promises Infrabel. As for the next sections of the RER on line 161, they will be inaugurated in mid-2025 (the nine kilometers between Brussels and the entrance to La Hulpe) and the end of 2026 (the ten kilometers between La Hulpe and Ottignies).
