Owendo Container Terminal (OCT), concessionaire of the Owendo port container terminal, commissioned on February 15, 2024 the bridge directly connecting the quay located at the NOIP zone port to the terminal in the Gabon Port Management (GPM) zone ). This investment of more than 2 billion FCFA, which is part of OCT’s stated desire to support the Gabonese State in the development and modernization of port infrastructure, follows the agreement signed on August 11, 2022 with the Port Authority, the Office of Ports and Harbors of Gabon (OPRAG) and the company Gabon Port Management (GPM) with a view to guaranteeing the security of goods on the one hand, and resolving the problems of traffic flow on the one hand within the port of Owendo on the other hand.
This infrastructure, in addition to meeting the expectations of port users, allows the Customs Administration to place container activity at docks and terminals under the control of a single customs office. All things which will facilitate the work of customs brokers and strengthen control at entry and exit from the terminal.
The simplification of container movements within the terminal should also benefit importers/exporters and maritime carriers due to the diligence in providing containers and transporting them to ships.
The construction of this bridge also has a considerable impact on the preservation of the environment. Labeled Green Terminal by Bureau Veritas, OCT hopes to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by more than 300 tonnes per year through this simplification of mobility, operations and procedures.
