The “Izdihar” multi-service center and a plastic waste recovery unit, the creation of which is part of the requalification of the industrial zone of Sidi Bernoussi (Casablanca), were inaugurated on Friday.
Worth a total of 36.5 million dirhams (MDH), these two projects, inaugurated by the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, in the presence in particular of the director of the Millennium Challenge Account-Morocco Agency (MCA-Morocco), Malika Laasri, and the Resident Director of Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) in Morocco, Carrie Monahan, have benefited from the support of the Sustainable Industrial Zones Fund (FONZID), set up by the MCA- Morocco, in partnership with the Ministry of Industry and Trade as part of the “Compact II” cooperation program.
This program, funded by the MCC, aims to strengthen the model of sustainable industrial zones and contribute to improving the productivity and environmental and social performance of industrial zones.
The work carried out under the first project, initiated by the Izdihar association of economic operators of the industrial zones of Sidi Bernoussi, concerned the construction, fitting out and equipment of a multi-service building over an area of 1,025 m², with a total constructed floor area of 2,758 m².
Thanks to an investment of 23 MDH, including a contribution from FONZID of 17.4 MDH, this center offers several services to companies and employees of the industrial zone, namely in particular a training center for literacy and professionalization of women. , a one-stop shop, training, co-working and meeting rooms, an occupational medicine room, a restaurant and an ATM.
The center has also been equipped with the necessary equipment for these services, as well as 2 electric mini-cars for the entertainment needs of the area.
Led by “Moroccan Recyling Platforms”, an economic interest group (GIE) formed by the “Tatmine” association and the “African Tiger” company, in partnership with the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH), the second project consisted of extending the Tatmine sorting center with the establishment of a plastic waste recycling and recovery unit.
Through an investment of 13.5 MDH, including a grant from FONZID of 9.1 MDH, which made it possible to finance grinding/screening equipment and industrial cleaning/drying/granulation tools, as well as equipment for the extrusion of plastic films and the manufacture of bags (welding of bags and four-color printing).
In addition to the installation of a mini-station for wastewater treatment and the establishment of a “Research and Development” component to explore other solutions for recovering industrial waste from the area, FONZID’s support has also covered the organization of waste collection, which consists of the development of a circular economy, the support of garbage collectors operating in the area according to a process of formalization and professionalization and the supply of materials and tools, to namely a collection truck, electric scooters and safety and handling equipment (PPE, pallet truck, trolley).
As technical assistance, FONZID supported the promoters of the two beneficiary projects with a view to strengthening and perpetuating their governance model and facilitating the management and maintenance of the two centers, through the development or refinement of Business Models and service contracts and the provision of CMMS (computer-aided maintenance management) platforms and other management tools.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Mezzour pointed out that the extension of the plastic waste sorting and recovery unit aims to increase the plastic waste treatment capacity and to comply with international quality standards.
With regard to the multi-service centre, the Minister affirmed that this project translates the High Royal Guidelines in terms of modernization and good governance of industrial zones, by providing them with catering, training and health areas, for the good – to be industrialists and workers.
And to recall that the industrial zone of Sidi Bernoussi is spread over nearly 1,000 hectares and employs nearly 50,000 people.
For her part, Ms. Monahan indicated that these two inaugurated strategic projects will have a significant social impact. “Izdihar and Tatmine are part of the Compact II cooperation program and are financed by FONZID, which is a fund that has financed 9 projects across the Kingdom and created 50,000 jobs,” she added.
For her part, Mrs. Laasri, maintained that these two projects, of social and environmental quality, are part of the strategy for the rehabilitation of the industrial zone of Sidi Bernoussi.
