Last Sunday, 35 members of the “AKABE Scouts ‘t Kruierke Balen”, a scout group for disabled children, were to spend a pleasant day at Bobbejaanland in Lichtaart. If the amusement park was aware that children with reduced mobility were going to roam the premises, nothing was done to welcome them properly.

Even before their departure, the parents of one of the members contacted the park. And to say the least, the manager was not very cooperative: “He told them that it was better for the child to stay at home because visitors are supposed to enter attractions independently. It was already a big disappointment. Especially because we had informed ourselves in advance. According to the Bobbejaanland website, the park is wheelchair accessible. But apparently that’s not the case,” Sander Van den Brande of AKABE Scouts complains to the NB.
There was also a cold shower there. “A group was joining the El Rio attraction. This is a water attraction where you have to ride in a boat via a rotating disc. This is not easy for an ordinary visitor. One of our members had great difficulty getting into the boat. But with the help of management, it still worked and had a great trip, but following they left, a staff member took the group separately. The employee told them that boarding had been too slow. He preferred that they no longer return to the attraction,” he adds.
The indignation is therefore very great and Sander wants to make it known. It is for this reason that AKABE Scouts posted a letter of complaint addressed to Bobbejaanland on their Facebook page.
