African skirmishers in the spotlight

The “Rue du General De Gaulle” becomes “Rue de la Paix” while the “Avenue du Capitaine Javelier” will become “Avenue du Tirailleur Africain”, in tribute to the African soldiers who fought for France during the World Wars.

The street “Thiaroye 44”, named following a place near Dakar where the French army massacred in December 1944 “tirailleurs” demanding the payment of balances, will replace the “rue du lieutenant Lemoine”.

The “street of Lieutenant Truch”, another French figure, changes to bear the name of Séléki, in memory of a battle won in 1886 over French colonial troops by resistance fighters in this village in the eponymous region of Ziguinchor, according to historians .

Opponent Ousmane Sonko on the initiative

Ousmane Sonko, deputy to the National Assembly, is a serious contender for the 2024 presidential election. He came third in the 2019 presidential election, won by President Macky Sall.
