In Vilnius, two more public spaces in residential areas are being renovated Business

The square near the cultural center on Gerovės gerovės Street is planned to be renovated in New Vilnius. Residents of the district are invited to participate in meetings, submit ideas and agree on a vision for changes to the square, Vilnius data center “ID Vilnius” reported this week.

“Back in the Soviet era, the square planned according to the standards of that time has nothing to offer for everyday leisure and remains an empty, transit space between events. The renovation aims, on the one hand, to keep the square as a place for community gatherings, but at the same time to make it more pleasant, so that it invites different groups of residents to stay here and spend time on a daily basis”, according to the statement of the center.

Built in 1962, cultural events, children’s groups and community meetings take place in the building of the cultural center, where the New Vilnius old town and library are located.

At that time, it is planned to develop an area in Perkūnkiemi that is currently unused, overgrown with greenery, and unsuitable for visiting and recreation. The Vilnius Development Company announced on Friday that it is organizing an open architectural project competition for the installation of this public space.

Laura Joffė, the head of the Vilnius Development Company, said that by announcing the architectural competition, the company aims to find the best solution so that the territory becomes a representative space that forms the main identity of Perkūnkiemis.

“We expect the architects to create a modern public space that is attractive and functional in all seasons. When formulating the competition task, we suggest that they also pay attention to energy-saving technologies and circular economy solutions, which not only extend the life cycle of architectural solutions, but also improve society’s everyday life,” she said in a statement.

The territory located on Perkūnkiemi Street will have attractions for people of various ages and interests, small architectural elements for various activities and a designated place for a work of art.
