In Vilnius – discussions of financial experts on the strengthening of European and Lithuanian capital markets | Business

According to the organizers, this year the participants of the conference will pay the most attention to the initiative of the European Union (EU) capital markets union, which would unite all the countries of the bloc into a real common capital market. Debt trends in the Baltic countries, the initial public offering (IPO) market will also be discussed.

According to Vice Minister of Finance Vaida Česnulevičiūtė-Morkevičienė, the event will assess Lithuania’s progress in strengthening the local capital market, as Lithuanian residents are still much slower to invest than in the EU or the USA.

“The conference is intended to look at where we are and to exchange opinions, what we do well, what we do not so well, how we can improve. (…) This will be a great opportunity to see if we are doing everything right and maybe someone will have ideas on how to improve our capital market”, said V. Česnulevičiūtė-Markevičienė at the press conference on Thursday.

According to her, only 2.3 percent in Lithuania. of people had invested in securities last year, at that time this indicator reached 17% in the EU and 43% in the USA.

The conference will be attended by Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė, Minister of Finance Gintarė Skaistė, Chairperson of the Supervisory Board of the European Central Bank Claudia Maria Buch (Klaudija Marija Buch), Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania Gediminas Šimkus, Head of the Northern Investment Bank Andre Kuusve (Andrė Kiusvė), heads of the central banks of Latvia and Estonia. .
