“Citizens should appreciate the invitation to a rally once morest NATO partners from a fake social network account. This may be a provocation, in which the citizens of Lithuania are wanted to be involved,” Darius Buta, representative of the National Crisis Management Center (NKVC), told BNS on Thursday.
As the Vilnius municipality told BNS, the organizers of the event did not apply for a permit.
The police also claim that they have no further information regarding the planned protest action at the German embassy.
“The police noticed this information in the public space. (…) Officials continue to monitor information in the public space, if that meeting takes place illegally, the officials will react,” Vilnius officials representative Tomas Braženias told BNS.
In the trailer of the event on the Facebook social network, the incoming NATO soldiers are identified as a threat to Lithuania, and the authorities are accused of handing over “our territory to foreigners”.
Rafals Kowalskis presents himself as the organizer of the protest, but the head of the disinformation analysis center “Debunk.org” Viktoras Daukšas says that it is a so-called puppet account.
“The real identity is hidden under this account. The available information is not enough to prove that this is a real person,” a non-government official told BNS.
According to him, the account, created since 2021, regularly shares misleading information or disinformation, but its spread is not large.
