In Trentino it’s bear-phobia: “Farmer fleeing to Val di Non and sighting of three cubs in Sardagna” – Chronicle

TRENTO. Sightings of plantigrades continue in our Province after last week’s dramatic episode near the town of Caldes. Katia Rossato, councilor of the Brothers of Italy, tells it in a note.

“Yesterday morning, a farmer from Contà, a town in the Val di Non, noticed a bear that was catching up with him while he was working in his own countryside. A great scare and a flight home were the understandable reactions of this close encounter Also yesterday, I received news of the sighting by a hiker of three bear cubs above the town of Sardagna, an episode that would have occurred a few weeks ago and which fortunately had no consequences, given the apparent absence of the mother of the puppies”.

“Situations that can only arouse great concern in all of us and that only those who live in the area can fully understand”, comments Rossato. “Trentino boasts numerous mountain communities that survive and thrive thanks to the territory. Agriculture and tourism are the main sources of livelihood and it is the task of those who administer the same territory to guarantee security as today’s valleys mainly and forcefully demand. It’s time to do something! Too easy to judge an unknown situation from a big city or from a place where certain problems seem distant and can be tackled with a manual in hand or by following some online guide! I express all my closeness to our people in these days of pain and concern”.
