Psycom is a public organization which participates in the defense of mental health rights, by offering quality information on the rights of the people concerned and the possible remedies in the event of non-respect of these rights. For the first time, useful information in all areas of daily life that can be impacted by having a mental disorder is brought together on the same site. By offering accessible information, this new content on rights contributes to the empowerment of people living with a mental disorder.

Because it is together that we can improve respect for rights and guarantee citizenship for all, Psycom provides, in addition to its 7 information brochures on rights in psychiatry, new comprehensive web content on a regular basis. update. Three new pages dedicated to rights, intended for patients, care and support teams, lawyers and relatives.

Estelle Saget, editorial manager of Psycom, wrote these 3 pages with the participation of different professionals, including three peer health mediators. His work was enriched by the contents of the History of Law Kit, a Psycom educational tool created by Sophie Arfeuillère and information brochures on rights, coordinated by Céline Loubières. Maud Meylan, Project Manager at Psycom until 2022, was also called upon for her expertise in respecting rights in the psychiatric service. All our information on rights is updated regularly, thanks to our partnership with Olivier Dupuy, doctor of law.

On our website, you can now find information on rights in the life of a citizen, in the life of people treated in town or in hospital. This information concerns various situations such as: parenthood and desire for children, right to vote, property loan, deprivation of liberty, telephone at the hospital, right of access to one’s patient file, etc.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) have, on the occasion of World Mental Health Day 2023, published “new directions to improve laws to address human rights abuses in mental health care”.

According to a survey conducted by UNAFAM as part of its 2023 Barometer: “85% of respondents declare that their loved one has difficulty accessing at least one of their fundamental rights”.

Finally, last October, the States General of mistreatment concerning people in vulnerable situations, including people living with a psychological disorder, submitted their summary to Aurore Bergé, Minister of Solidarity and Families, and to Fadila Khattabi, Minister Delegate responsible for people with disabilities. This report includes 70 proposals which are structured around 7 objectives, the first of which aims to “Better inform people and those around them regarding their rights and remedies, in a transversal manner”.
