Revelation of the year in Quebec in 2021 for the film “The goddess of fire flies”, Quebecer Kelly Depeault has just been rewarded in Angoulême (FFA) for her third major role, in “Noémie dit oui”, presented in official competition.
It is a sensational debut in cinema. In three feature films, the young Quebec actress, Kelly Depeault, won two important interpretation awards, including the special mention awarded to her by the jury of the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival (FFA), Sunday August 28, 2022.
On the stage of the Angoulême theatre, following the awarding of the prize for female interpretation to Sara Giraudeau and Judith Chemla for The sixth child by Léopold Legrand, Alexis Moncorgé, member of the jury, takes the floor to announce a “spectacular turn of events”.
“We had a lot of portraits of women this week with dazzling actresseshe announces. It was very difficult for us to choose. We thought we mightn’t miss a special mention for another actress.”
Then, his colleague on the jury, Joséphine Japy, continues: “Exceptional year, exceptional performance, exceptional measurement ! A special mention for a young actress, a young person whose performance we wanted to mark. We would like Kelly Depeault to join us on stage for a special mention.”
Kelly Depeault is thus rewarded for her very noticed role in Noémie says yes by Geneviève Albert, released last spring on screens in Quebec.
Visibly very moved, the young Kelly Depeault, 20, slips into the microphone a discreet : “Life is Beautiful!”
Noémie says yes is set to hit theaters in France in April 2023. The film found a distributor just days before the start of the FFA.
Already in 2021, Kelly Depeault was honored at the Gala Québec Cinéma. The film in which she plays, The Goddess of Fireflies, win four of the 14 Iris prizes. The film was crowned best film, its director, Anaïs Barbeau-Lavalette, won the prize for best director and Kelly Depeault, that of revelation of the year.
