On Tuesday, the Algerian capital witnessed an unprecedented military parade, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of independence.
The parade took place at the level of National Road No. 11 at the eastern entrance to the capital and adjacent to the Algiers Mosque.
Activists circulated a video clip showing Algerian forces raising the Palestinian flag and chanting “Gaza strength, long live Palestine.”
This parade is the first of its kind in 33 years, as the last time the Algerian army staged a military parade was in 1989, two years before the country entered a security crisis that ended at the beginning of the millennium with a reconciliation law established by the late President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
Notable was the presence of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and head of the Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, in the parade, which was supervised by Algerian President Abdel Majid Tebboune.
