Al-Marsad newspaper: The astronomer expert, Dr. Khaled Al-Zaqaq, said that he was accused of astrology and faced opposition from relatives because of his entry into the world of astronomy, stressing that he studied Sharia and the principles of religion, in order to obtain a job only.

Al-Zaqqaq added: “I took a different path, and the path different from the traditional peoples gets rough. I was cast as astrology because of my follow-up to the stars, because there was no one to follow them in the past.”
And the astronomer added: “Accurately following the stars is a different matter for peoples, and practical application does not exist, as everyone was memorizing verses regarding climate, in theory without practical application.”
People’s attitudes affected me
He added: “The attitudes of the people around me certainly affected me, and I was forced to study Sharia and the principles of religion, in order to get a job, especially since we do not have astronomical sciences in Saudi universities.”
I studied Sharia for a living
Al-Zaqqaq concluded his statements: “My first hobby was electronic engineering, and I studied it at the Technical College and concluded it, then I studied Sharia and the principles of religion, which is for a living, not for specialization.”
