But the authorities remain cautious. The decline would be linked to more effective awareness, while vaccination remains slow.

For the American authorities, it is still too early to claim victory, but the hope of seeing the monkeypox epidemic recede seems to be gradually gaining ground. The number of cases nationwide is down 25% this month. A trend even more visible in the big cities which were the most affected, such as Chicago or San Francisco. In New York, for example, considered the epicenter of this epidemic in the United States, contamination has dropped by 40%.

A situation which, according to experts, is due to behavioral changes, particularly among at-risk populations, such as the LGBTQ community. Since transmission of the virus is mainly through sex, a recent survey shows that 50% of participants say they have reduced the number of sexual partners and one-night stands.

The authorities call for caution until the virus has receded definitively and insist on the importance of vaccination. But this point remains a critical point in the United States where the lack of vaccines has been much criticized since the start of this epidemic.
