In the presence of Moroccan King Mohammed VI, and French President Emmanuel Macron, who is visiting Morocco, accompanied by a delegation that includes senior French ministers and officials, 22 cooperation agreements, memorandums of understanding and protocols were signed, affecting several areas between the two countries.
The first agreement relates to a protocol of agreement to supply locomotives for the high-speed train and its supporting elements.
The fifth agreement included a protocol of agreement between the government of the Kingdom of Morocco and the “Safran” company, to establish a site for the maintenance and repair of aircraft engines.
The sixth agreement included implementing the Moroccan offer for the green hydrogen sector and signing an agreement with Total Energies.
Among the areas covered by other agreements are renewable energies, civil protection, ports, water, higher education, culture, environment, investment, and others.
Macron’s visit comes about three months after France announced its support for the Moroccan position on Western Sahara, and its support for the Kingdom’s plan to grant autonomy to the Sahrawi regions, which is rejected by the Polisario Front and its ally, Algeria. The French recognition came after a diplomatic crisis between the two countries.
It is noteworthy that Morocco is France’s first trading partner in Africa, as French businessmen aspire to strengthen relations with Morocco and enhance their presence in the Kingdom.
