In the Louvre, cup of the Olympic Museum of Thessaloniki 2024-04-29 20:11:41

The Thessaloniki Olympic Museum contributed to the uniquely important exhibition, lending the “Athens 1906” Mid-Olympic Cup. This is the cup that was given as a prize in the marathon road, at the Mid-Olympic Games in 1906. It has particularly prominent handles on its sides. On the front it has the inscription “OLYMPIC GAMES INTERNATIONAL IN ATHENS 1906”. on the back it has the inscription “SOUVENIR OF MARATHON”.

The exhibition, which is hosted in the Richelieu gallery of the Louvre Museum, opened its doors to the guests of honor on Monday, April 22, in the presence of the Ambassador of Greece in Paris Dimitrios Zavelakis, the Representative of Greece to UNESCO Giorgos Koumoutsakos, the General Director of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture Olympia Vikatos, the Financial Director of the “Stavros Niarchos” Foundation Christina Lampropoulos and a number of institutional personalities who honored the event.

The Thessaloniki Olympic Museum was represented by the Director/CEO Dr. Sunday Udatzi. With the history of the Olympic Games as its central theme from antiquity to the present day, the exhibition delves into the political context within which the 1st modern Olympic Games (“Athens 1896)” were revived. The exhibition will run until September 16, 2024.
