In the grip of AADE pensioners and employees who declared less than €10,000 and spent more than €200,000

According to information, these are taxpayers for whom it emerged that while they declared incomes lower than 10,000 euros, their living expenses, in the same period, exceeded 30,000 and in some cases even 200,000 euros.

The first list of 1,500 suspects for tax evasion was drawn up based on the findings from the audits carried out by AADE in the autumn of 2023 on 3.8 million tax returns of the tax year 2022 with an income of less than 10,000 euros, comparing data from its services on the consumption expenses of these taxpayers with the amount of income they declared.

Specifically, the cross-referenced data concerns:

  • Card payments
  • Interest on deposits and bank accounts with cumulative movements of more than 100,000 euros during the year
  • Interest and loan installments from consumer and mortgage to credit cards
  • Retail expenses in all kinds of shops and supermarkets
  • Spending on buying assets from real estate and cars to yachts
  • Expenses for life, death, personal accident and sickness insurance policies
  • Hospitalization expenses in private clinics
  • Private school tuition
  • Expenses for light, water, telephone, if they exceeded 1,000 euros
