On the 7th, candidate Ki-Hyeon Kim and former lawmaker Gyeong-Won Na announced that they would work together for the success of the Yoon Seok-yeol government and victory in the general election next year. It is interpreted that former Congressman Na actually sided with Candidate Kim in the face of Candidate Kim’s hardships. It has been 13 days since Na, a former member of Congress, announced that he would not run for office due to pressure from the President’s office and ‘Yoon Haek-gwan’ (a key official on President Yoon Seok-yeol’s side). Attention is focusing on how it will affect voters one day before the preliminary primary (cut-off) for the party convention, which is conducted through a poll of responsible party members.

Candidate Kim and former lawmaker Na stood together in front of reporters following a private luncheon at a restaurant in Jeong-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul. Na, who spoke first, said, “It is very unfortunate that it seems to be flowing into a party convention of division,” and said, “What we need to think regarding is the successful management of state affairs by the Yoon Seok-yeol government and victory in the general election next year.” Former lawmaker Na said, “You have to put any selfishness in front of it.” Candidate Kim said, “It was a place where we might share together regarding the efforts to preserve and realize the values of the conservative right-wing party during the past 20 years.” We will seek a lot of advice,” he said.

There was no clear statement from the two that former lawmaker Na supported candidate Kim. The emotional scars from the pro-Yun Seok-yeol attacks on former lawmaker Na were still not healed, and the expressions of the two were not bright.

Candidate Kim said, “We will discuss various things together in the future.” Former lawmaker Na said, “We share a lot of perceptions.” “It is a difficult time and a lot of work to do. I will play the necessary role to win the general election,” he said. The two broke up following posing for the camera holding hands.

Candidate Kim appeared on YTN following meeting with former lawmaker Na that day and said, “If you say ‘de facto declaration of support’, that is a fact.” Candidate Kim’s side explained, “I can’t use the expression ‘support’ because I am the current party chairman,” and “the declaration of support is that the two will stand together and cooperate.”

Candidate Kim worked hard to change the mind of former lawmaker Na, who said, “I have no intention of playing a role in the party convention.” The two met on the 3rd at the home of former lawmaker Na in Yongsan, Seoul, and two days later, Candidate Kim visited Gangneung, Gangwon to meet former lawmaker Na, who was on a family trip. Pro-Yoon-gye first-time lawmakers who joined the criticism of former lawmakers in line with the presidential office and Yoon Haek-gwan also visited the office of the party council in Dongjak, Seoul the day before and comforted former lawmaker Na. Former party leader Lee Jun-seok, including party representative candidate Cheon Ha-ram, criticized Candidate Kim as “the behavior of a perpetrator of school violence.”

Candidate Kim’s three-and-a-half-year-old attempt once morest former lawmaker Na gave up running for former lawmaker Na, and as candidate Ahn Cheol-soo’s approval rating soared, the result of a series of public opinion polls showed candidate Kim being pushed back to second place. Candidate Kim, who has become impatient, is pursuing a strategy to absorb Ahn’s supporters by attracting the support of former Congressman Na along with a wave of offensive, such as color theory. In particular, he devoted all his energy to producing tangible results ahead of the preliminary contest, which will be held on the 8th and 9th through a public opinion poll of 6,000 party members in charge. Rep. Kim’s side said, “I was going to hold an event before tomorrow (8th) as the public opinion poll (preliminary race) begins.”

From the standpoint of former lawmakers, it was less burdensome to stand on the side of Candidate Kim than Candidate Ahn. When former Congressman Na was attacked as the ‘ban-yun chief’ by pro-yun factions last month, he said, “I don’t think I will become a ban-yun even if I die.” This time, in a situation where Candidate Ahn was accused of being anti-Yun, former lawmaker Na might not have supported Candidate Ahn. In addition, unlike Candidate Ahn, who has been in the People’s Power for less than a year, he has been in the conservative party for a long time with Candidate Kim. Candidate Kim and former lawmaker Na are also senior and junior at Seoul National University Law School and a judge. An official from Na’s side said, “I feel sorry for (Candidate Kim), but isn’t it funny that I support Candidate Ahn?”

Candidate Kim expected that the meeting on this day would be of great help in the election. Candidate Kim said, “Among those who supported former CEO Na, the vast majority were those who had orthodox right-wing roots.” It means a lot,” he said.

Yoon Haek-gwan, who took the lead in ‘beating Na Kyung-won’, also welcomed it all at once. Representative Jang Je-won said, “It is very welcome to show the appearance of working together for the success of the Yoon Seok-yeol government.” Rep. Park Soo-young said, “It seems that a good ending is coming.” On the other hand, candidate Cheon Ha-ram predicted, “There are far more people who believe that former lawmakers moved under pressure.”
