A rare Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider sold at Gooding & Company auction for a staggering $18,045,000

This example is great not only for its price increase since its purchase in 1972 for a modest $ 2,400 (which corresponds to regarding 17.7 thousand adjusted for inflation), but also for its fascinating history.

Released in 1962 for the American market, this rarest spider had an accident in the 1970s that damaged the wheel, chassis and exhaust systems, but the bodywork remained unscathed. The seller found it unfit for life and sold it as is. But salvation awaited this artifact of retro car lovers – Charles Betz and Fred Peters bought it from a landfill and restored it to factory condition in the 2000s.

This Ferrari 250 GT California Spider is one of 106 models built, of which only 47 had headlights in the same configuration as the car sold. Surprisingly, this example was the only one with an Azzurro Metallizzato body color and brown leather interior decor.

At auctions, not only original Ferraris of the above model are valued, but also artistic fakes. But the rare Ferrari still rose in price by more than a thousand times and amazed the world with its beauty and history.
