In the Belgian “Mask Singer”, the president of the Flemish PS was hiding under a rabbit

CULTURE – Combining politics and entertainment, a recipe that is tried everywhere. Friday March 18, the Dutch-speaking Belgians who were in front of the local adaptation of “The Masked Singer” discovered that one of their chosen ones was on board.

And not just anyone: Conner Rousseau, 29 years old and president of the social democratic party Vooruit, as you can see in the videos belowwas hiding under a rabbit costume in the Belgian counterpart of “Mask Singer” on TF1.

A surprise participation in the program broadcast on the VTM channel which led to criticism, particularly on Twitter, where some were outraged that politics mixed with entertainment, more so in times of crisis.

Asked regarding the reactions on a morning show following the broadcast, Conner Rousseau defended his decision. “People always want politicians to be among the people. (…) I am 29 years old and want to do things alongside my work”, he replied before explaining that the show had been recorded months before, when the war in Ukraine n was not topical. “The shooting goes back ten months, and we don’t know what will happen in ten months”.

The controversial participation of a political figure is not a first for the show. In the American version, Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump’s ex-lawyer, appeared in one of the costumes, which shocked two of the show’s judges who then walked off the set in protest.
