In Smarde, the man repeatedly violates the restraining order and tries to burn his ex-girlfriend’s car

On March 5, around 1:15 p.m., the officials of the Rietumzemgale station of the Zemgale regional administration of the State Police received a call to Tukuma district, Smārde parish, where a man born at an address in 1977 intentionally damaged the vehicles at the address using a pre-prepared fuel mixture filled in glass bottles. At the scene, the front windshield of a Chevrolet brand car was smashed and a Ford Fiesta brand car was set on fire, and at the same time, a Volvo brand car, which the man had driven to the scene, also caught fire and was completely burnt. After the incident, he left on foot.

Officials of the State Police immediately arrived at the scene and found that the man had gone to the nearby forest massif. Taking into account the unfavorable weather conditions and snowfall at the time, in order to find the wanted person as soon as possible, immediate search measures were initiated, attracting additional resources – the Special Tasks Battalion of the State Police, a canine handler of the State Police with a service dog, personnel of the State Fire and Rescue Service with a drone, also Tukuma municipality police officials.

Active search for the person in the forest continued until it was possible to trace the man’s tracks, however, with the onset of darkness, a decision was made to conduct the search for the person using other methods appropriate to the circumstances. Meanwhile, the next day, the man himself came to the West Zemgale station of the Zemgale regional administration of the State Police, where he was also detained and yesterday, March 7, he was placed in protective custody.

It is important that the man had previously violated the court’s decision on temporary protection once morest violence by approaching his ex-girlfriend, and for this violation at the beginning of this year, a criminal trial was already started, which is currently being investigated. And now, for the offense committed on March 5, another criminal trial has been started, which is qualified accordingly according to the second part of Article 185 of the Criminal Law for the intentional destruction or damage of someone else’s property, if it was done by burning and according to Article 168.1 of Article on abusive non-execution of the ruling on protection once morest violence. The criminal investigation continues.
